Facts and Events
[russell.FTW] "Went with her mother, sister, grandmother & greatgrandmother Molly Striker to Danvers during the War of 1812 to be away from Marblehead where English vessels came in and made the old ladies very nervous and freightened. She remembered the return to Marblehead & the illumination in honor of peace. She helped put out the candles in the old Lee mansion, where her aunt Polly (Lewis) Russell lived. Her husband was cashier of the bank there. The tavern where her uncle Bill lived of John & Miriam Roads Russell was next the Grand Bank & very near the old homestead where she and her mother were brought up, and where uncle Ned (Edmund Lewis Jr.) lived at one time, & her mother Mrs. Lovett kept a private school. __ Louis Russell must have brought a great deal of property with him as they always [had] plenty. Lafayette had told John (2) of Louis (1) they could have their property in France if they would come to France for it, but he did not go. When Lafayette came to Marblehead in 1824 John was dead but he asked to see all of his descendants. Mrs. Polly Russell had them go to the Lee mansion and pass in review before him. Molly Striker or Stryker was 2nd wife of John Russell. She had one daughter who died at 18."
