Elizabeth Hill's origins are unknown. Her first sighting is on 4th August 1751, when she was married at Barton in Bedfordshire to a labourer named William Bentman. The following year they had a son, James, baptised at Barton.

Some time between 1752 and 1756, the family moved to Shillington, a couple of miles north-east of Barton, which is where William was from. At Shillington, they had their next child baptised on 29th February 1756.

Elizabeth died the following year, being buried at Shillington on 22nd March 1757. William was left with their five year old son and one year old daughter to look after. He remarried four years after Elizabeth's death.
