REFN: 5133 !OBITUARY: GUTTENBERG PRESS, Guttenberg, Iowa, March 23, 1922 MILLVILLE TOWNSHIP PIONEER DEAD. Mrs. John Minger (nee Elizabeth Hassig) passed away at her home in Millville township on last Sunday morning, March 19, 1922, at 1:30 o'clock at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 19 days, the cause of her death being mostly due to old age. Deceased was born at Stienersville, Ohio, on August womanhood. She was married in Ohio April 27, 1854, to Mr. John Minger, who preceded her in death. Many years ago Mr. and Mrs. Minger came to Iowa, settling on a farm in Millville township, Clayton county, where deceased spent the remainder of her life. Mrs. Minger was a kind and loving mother and friend, and was a true Christian and ambitious woman during her entire life, which won her countless friends. Since the death of her husband she always received the best of care from her children and grandchildren, and in her death Millville township loses one of its most highly respected and worthy mothers and pioneer residents, as she was loved by all who knew her. Her death is deeply mourned by six sons, John, George, Henry and Charles of Millville township, Frank of Guttenberg, and Albert, of Canada; five daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, Mrs. Sarah Smith, Mrs. Ella White and Mrs Susie Kenyon, of Millville township, and Mrs. Emma Kappen, of Grand Island, Nebraska; fifty-six grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Marie Blattler and Louise Staib, of Clarington, Ohio, Mrs. Jeannette Doty, of Moundsville, West Virginia, Mrs. Caroline Staib, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Margaret Fenkhauser, of Powhattan, Ohio; one aunt, Mrs. Caroline Miller, 96 years old, living in Ohio, and numerous other relatives and friends, by whom she will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held at her late home on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Fred Riggs, of Fairview officiating. The body was laid to rest in St. John's cemetery in Jefferson township. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed that deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
