Elizabeth Constable's origins have yet to be established. Her first sighting is on 27th September 1752 when she married a tailor named John Swallow at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire. They had a son, John, born at Wheathampstead just a couple of months after their marriage, and then moved to the neighbouring parish of Kimpton, which is where John's father was from. At Kimpton they had another three children.

Elizabeth died about six months after her youngest son James's baptism. She was buried at Kimpton on 1st January 1759. Baby James died shortly after his mother, being buried eleven days later.

John would go on to remarry five months after Elizabeth's death.
