Service: He enlisted about May 1, 1775 and served two months as private in Captain Benjamin Dillingham's Massachusetts Company; he enlisted in May or June 1776 and served six months as private in Captain Noah Hall's Company, Colonel Aaron Willard's Massachusetts Regiment, was on duty at lake Ticonderoga and in the battle when General Waterbury was taken Prisoner; in the spring of 1777, he enlisted in the transport service under Captain George Whipple, was on the "Leopard", Captain Patrick Maxfield, a few weeks, was on the "Sally", and made two trips on the "Royalty" running from Boston to Baltimore, during the second trip of the vessel was in a battle, was taken prisoner, was set adrift in a small boat about twenty-seven miles from land and finally reached North Carolina, length of service about four months; he made his way to Baltimore, Maryland, was commissioned Lieutenant and went aboard the United States "Retaliation", Captain Thomas Bell, started to sail for Port Stacey in the West Indies but, on the outward voyage, was in a severe battle with two British vessels from which the "Retaliation" escaped, made her way to Port Stacey, thence to Philadelphia, length of service about four months; after this, the served three months as private in Captain Manasseh Kempton's Massachusetts Company at Tiverton, Rhode Island; in 1779, he served three months in Captain George Claghorn's Massachusetts Regiment in Rhode Island.
Other information: After his service, he lived in New Bedford, Massachusetts, until about 1798, when he moved to Otsego County, New York. He was allowed pension on his application executed Aug 17, 1832, at which time he resided in Butternuts, Otsego County, New York. The 1840 pension census has him in Guilford, Chenango County, New York. In 1843 he was living in Norwich, New York.
