See following discussion.
Source:Waters, Henry F. Newhall Family of Lynn, Massachusetts, published 1882, p. 22, lists among the children of Thomas Newhall [#21] and Rebecca Greene: Elisha, m. Rebecca Gay of Stoneham, 1721. There is no further mention of Elisha, no evidence given, "no probate of division of this estate [i.e., of the father Thomas] has been found".

Source:Newhall, Charles Lyman. Record of My Ancestry, published 1899, p. 16, lists in this family, Elisha, m. 1721, Rebecca Gay of Stoneham.

Source:MacKenzie, George N. Colonial Families of the United States of America, Vol. 2, p. 556, says "Elisha, m. 1721, Rebecca Gay of Stoneham".

The reference below to Source:Register of the Massachusetts Society of Colonial Dames of America, 1893-1905 is underspecified, but unlikely to offer any thing more than another copy of this fragment.

Searching has yielded not a single record that appears likely to be connected with either of these two people. The only specific besides the name is the marriage date and no record of it is found either.

What is found, recorded in Stoneham (which did not exist in 1721), Reading and Lynn is the following marriage

  • Stoneham VRs, p. 128: NEWHALL, Elisha, of Lynn, and [Mrs. int.] Rebecca Garey, at Reading, Nov. 21, 1782.
  • Reading VRs, p. 397:NEWHALL, Elisha of Lynn, and Rebecca Garey of Stoneham, Nov. 21, 1782.
  • Lynn VRs, Vol. 2, p. 266: NEWHALL, Elisha, and Rebecca Garey of Stoneham, at Reading, Nov. 21,1782.

Given the complete absence of any deeds naming Elisha Newhall, a birth or death, or children in Malden, it seems almost certain this person and his marriage is fictitious caused by mistranscribing the 1782 marriage.
