In the settlement of his uncle William Newton's estate in 1821, Elijah is "out of the Government" and represented by the administrator Jonathan Edmonds. On 8 Jan 1822, the real estate is settled on Lucy Newton and she gives bond, promising to pay "Elijah Stockwell of the State of New York Yeoman" his share.
