    Ex-County Treasurer dies at his home in Eckerty

    Elijah Peter Brown, son of John France and Sarah Brown, was born in Crawford County, December 30, 1852; died at his home in Eckerty, March 3, 1924 of TB, age 71 years, 2 months, 4 days.

    He was united in marriage to Annie (Cynthia Anne) Denbo May 19, 1880. To this union three children were born, Daisy Lee Miller of English, Eli D. and Joseph, who died in infancy, and his wife died June 3, 1886.

    He was again married to Sarah E. Walls, April 12, 1888. To this union five children were born: Lawrence S. Brown, Phronia A. Ingle, Mayme A. Gilmore, Orville M. and Arthur B. Brown, all of Eckerty.

    He made the noble confession on Sat. March 1st and was baptized by Brother Lovell of French Lick on Sunday afternoon, March 2nd.

    He was the oldest member of the Eckerty Masonic Lodge #719. He served two terms as County Treasurer of Crawford County from 1898 to 1902, making his last race without any opponent.

    He leaves his wife, six children, 17 grandchildren, 1 sister, Sarah F. Slow of Evansville and 1 brother George J. Brown of New Albany to mourn their loss.
    Funeral services were held at the Christian Church at Eckerty by Elder, W.T. Kellams Wednesday at 2:30 and burial was in the Eckerty Cemetery.
