Source:Davis, Walter Goodwin. Ancestry of Annis Spear, 1775-1858, of Litchfield, Maine, p. 90, shows two children, says of the second: "possibly the same child as Elihu above". He says of the bapt. "possibly an erroneous date", though if one of these records is erroneous, it is more like to be the birth. After all, church records are generally collected at the time of the baptism by a clerk, and printed in the same order; whereas town records are collected when they get reported, often many months later, and are printed in alphabetical order, causing loss of context.]

  4. There is no death recorded for a baby Elihu, and it seems too coincidental that two children would be born so close to exactly one year apart. It is more likely that there was only one child named Elihu and either the birth in 1642 or the baptism in 1641 was recorded with the wrong year. Given normal patterns, church records tend to be more reliable (see the comment above), and late 1641 fits better between 1639 and early 1644, so it seems more probable that 1641 is the correct date. However, the possibility remains that there could have been two sons named Elihu, one born in 1641 and baptized 5 Dec who died soon, and another born in Nov 1642 that survived, and if some evidence were found to support this, then two Person pages would be needed.
