Unknown Lefever(s) Found
Discovery of a 1803 Maryland document revealed, as I suspected, that Eli (# 8-014 in the book, "The Pennsylvania Lefevers") had seven (7) sons. Only two are listed. All, or at least most, went to Southwest Ohio in the early 1800's. No wonder when the compilers tried to assign some Lefever to a parent, errors were made. In my case, my ancestor, John Lefever, son of Elias was not known, so he and all of his children were not recorded. His neighbor in 1830, Jacob Lefever, was not connected to him, and was assigned as a son of Jacob Lefever, though in fact they were brothers.
I see where one Ferree posting has a Lemeul Ferree mentioned. I have connected with my John Lefever born 1770's a Lemuel Root who married in 1793 (I assume in Frederick, Maryland) a Magdelena Schmit. John with his sister Catherine Lefever born 1768, wife of Jacob Schmit and others went from Frederick and the Evangelical Reformed (Lutheran) church about 1803-6 to Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (now Blair County) and most started the Logan Valley Salem Lutheran church, Antis Township in the then Huntingdon County
Besides the Troxell or Troxel and Schaffer families, 9 of 11 children of Matthias Schmit and Anna Maria (Mary Ann) Buchman (or Hugman) went there. About the year 1800, the Schmits changed their name to Smith.
Children of Matthias & Mary Ann:
John Mathias married Mary Magdelena Main / Maen / Maer.
Jacob married 1794 Catherine Lefever (daughter of Elias & Mary Salome )
An. Barbara married 1788 Daniel Creager / Krieger
Magdelena married 1793 Lemeul Root
Christina married William Bottenburger / Buttenburger
Mary married Jacob Richwine
Ann married Peter Kesler
Catherine married Benjamin Brehn / Brain
Abraham married 1798 Ester Lefever (daughter of Christian Lefever, brother of Elias born 1743 (#8-014)
Susanna married 1808 George Regan
Elizabeth married 1797 Conrad Bower / Bauer
Charles Baltzell, an officer in the Revolution married a 2nd wife, a Creadler. The Pennsylvania Lefever book has Baltzell raising Jacob Lefever born 1785)
The Pennsylvania Lefever book for Elias Lefever lists only two sons and a daughter. However, in Frederick court archives, Descents: his heirs are named and his land sold (surveyed by Samuel Duvall by choice of the heirs) Named:
Catherine w/o Jacob Smith;
Elias (# 9-060) born 1790 married Catherine Craver by license 1798);
Daniel;
Peter;
John, born 1774-8 ?, married May 12, 1800 Catherine Martz born in Frederick 1777;
Jacob (probably the Jacob born 1785 listed as a son of Jacob - but father was Elias 8-014);
Christopher;
George born 1790 # 9-062.
The land, Bennetts Resolution was sold to Baker Johnson. All the sons went to Southwest Ohio.
When Christian died in 1801, widow Anne Ferree & heirs sold his land to George Butt (no son Christian is named in deeds or court actions as minor) All the others in the Lefever book are, including the one to Abraham Schmit /Smith.
I believe that the Christian assigned by George Newton Lefever as son of Christian is in error, that the Christian and Daniel Lefever pioneers in Miami County by 1806 are sons of Elias 8-014. My John is a few houses away in 1820 and so are many families from Antis plus Hitton / Hilton / other versions, Daniel Harmon, Sarah Herman, Cyrus Haywood, Nathaniel Brown, Gerrards, Knoop. In a history, Daniel Lefever born 1733, died 1837, claims descent from a daughter of Louis DuBois.
Elias (#9-060 In Descents) was named as guardian of his younger brothers Christopher & George. He went to Warren County, Ohio. His Daughter Mary? married Bone. Another McCoy - It is interesting that there were both Boone & Bone in Turtlecreek Township, Warren County and married to the same families including McCoy & Hatfield, but supposedly it is not the same surname.
