Marriage to Marian Curtis

"Sergt. Eliakam Demming" shows up in the October _?_, 1781 payroll record for Capt. Jacob Odel's militia company in Col. Ira Allen's regiment. This is likely this Eliakam. Others listed on this payroll are: Leit. Stephen Smith, Thomas Bull Jr., Reubin Smith and E. Elias Curtis.

Son of Timothy Deming and Susanna French, was born on August 1, 1741, in Wethersfield, CT (Reference: Records of Wethersfield, Conn. page 267). Eliakim was not listed in his father's will. He was only mentioned, "He moved to the west at an early date, and all further trace of him has been lost." (Reference: Genealogy of John Deming by Judson Keith Deming, 1904.) Thus Zachariah Curtis and Eliakim Deming are cousins. Eliakim's first wife Hannah, was born in about 1747. She died on April 10, 1791, "at the age of 44", and they are buried side by side at the Factory Point Cemetery of Manchester Center. (I have only found one child for Eliakim and Hannah.) Children There were no children by Mary Ann with Eliakim. Apparently Rosannah and her sister, Mary Ann, were given the name of their step father, after the death of Josiah. Thus they became "Deming" girls which has been a note of confusion for many researchers. Thoughts of MaryLu McClure, July 2008.
