According to the family Bible, he was born about 5:00 in the morning.

On 12 May 1797, he purchased from his cousin, Thomas Havey, a tract of land containing one hundred fifty acres and forty perches situated in Birmingham Township in Delaware Co. PA. Apparently his father had advanced him the money to buy this property as his share of his father's estate. He later purchased additional prosperities until he had six hundred acres of land in Birmingham Township. He built a fine residence on this property and lived there until his death.
According to William Booth Harvey: "Eli Harvey fell in love with Rachel Hollingsworth, and took his cousin, Thomas Harvey, to see her, and for his approval. The result of this visit was that Thomas Harvey superseded Eli Harvey in her affections, and Thomas Harvey and Rachel Hollingsworth were married in the year 1802."
He acquired the home known as Washington's Headquarters on 5 Oct. 1805, from the heirs of the estate of Benjamin Ring. It had been a licensed inn or hotel.
William Booth Harvey states that the four children of Eli Harvey and Mary Painter were born in Washington's Brandywine Headquarters.
One source gives his date of death as 10th of the 9th month 1846 at age 73 years, 2 months, and 12 days. (Taken from Nancy E. Almond's notes)
