Ric Crystler has written a biography of Electa Cary and published it on a Find-a-Grave memorial page for her at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=150225663. Ric has given permission for this to be posted here and online sites with attribution and has said his main source for Electa's info was "American Lineage of the MALLERY FAMILY OF WAYNE COUNTY, PA" by Ira D. Mallery and Mildred Mallery Tewksbury (compiled and printed by "Press of the Windsor Standard" - 1939)

"Electa was the daughter of Jesse Carey and Lucy Roberts. She was likely born in Great Barrington (Berkshire County), Massachusetts or Canajoharie, NY (Montgomery County). This is based on the fact that Electa's parents were married in Great Barrington (according to Massachusetts Marriages, 1695-1910) or based on the fact that Electa met and married Abel R. Belknap in Canajoharie where Abel's parents lived.

"Electa had several known siblings (prob. more): Amos, Lucy, and Adolphus Carey.

"Electa moved with her husband to Middlefield township, in Otsego County after 1790, but before 1800. The area where they lived was originally known as Cherry Valley township, in Otsego Co., NY, but in 1797, Cherry Valley was split in half and the township of Middlefield was created.

"Electa and her husband moved to Partridge Island, (Fishs Eddy, Delaware Co.) NY around 1800 (a very remote area about 10 miles east of Hancock, NY along the Delaware River) and later moved to an area near Kingsbury Hill and Starlight, PA around 1810. Shortly after the birth of her daughter Lucy in 1810, she died. The circumstances of her death are unknown. Since her husband Abel R. Belknap remarried around 1813, it is assumed that Electa died between 1810-1812, possibly due to complications during childbirth, but that is only speculation.

"It is likely she is interred in the Kingsbury Hill Cemetery as that was the only burying ground at the time where they lived, but it's also possible that Electa died before leaving Partridge Island and is interred there, either in an unmarked grave in the Partridge Island Cemetery or perhaps in a non-cemetery area near their home. It is likely that a large field stone marked the spot where she was buried and unfortunately, those things come up missing all the time, especially in burying grounds that were only known to family."
