"18. Eleazer3 Gilbert (Josiah,2 Thomas1), born at Wethersfield, Conn., Sept. 20, 1663; buried Sept. 15, 1701, from Marigold Street, parish of Bermondsey, County Surrey, England; married in England, Mary _____, who was living in 1708. … He married as early as 1698 and had a child Mary, baptized May 29, 1699, in the church of St. Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey. He was then living in Parkers Alley, and is called a mariner. This child was probably his only child and did not survive early childhood.
On Sept. 12, 1701, 'Eleazer Gilbert of the parish of St. Mary Magdalene in Bermondsey in the County of Surrey, Mariner, being sick and weak in body,' made his will [Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, Somerset House, London, vol. Degg, p. 106]. … The will was proved Nov. 15, 1703, by Mary Gilbert, the relict and executrix. He bequeathed all his estate, both real and personal, of whatever kind, after his just debts were paid, to his beloved wife Mary Gilbert and appoints her sole executrix. The daughter Mary is not named, nor is any other child.

Andrew Belcher of Boston, who acted Dec. 4, 1704, through his attorney, John Hamlin, Esq., of Middletown, who acted Mar. 15, 1708/9, conveyed to Jonathan Belden and John Reynolds of Wethersfield land that had come to her husband Eleazer Gilbert, from his father Josiah Gilbert, deceased, late of Wethersfield.'
