    Dr. Edwin L. Paulding was born in Damascus, Syria. He arrived in Arroyo Grande, California in the fall of 1883. He was the first permanent doctor--truly a horse-and-buggy doctor. The home he and his wife bought at the beginning of their marriage is a memorial to the three people who strived over many years to make Arroyo Grande a better place to live.
