According to the 1898 probate record of his grandmother, Margaret Spencer Gallagher, Edward McLaughlin left Brooklyn in 1893 to attend the World's Fair in Chicago, and was not heard from again.S1 But his father's 1896 probate record, in which he is referred to as Edwin H. McLaughlin, gives an address for him: 140 Clark St., Chicago.S2
