"The Hickman Family History" which is Volume one of three. The book has been compliled by H. Thomas Howell . . . Forwarded to us by Peggy Stuhlman Fusselman:

"Edwin R. Hansbrough (1841 - 1886) was the son of Enoch H. Hansbrough (1815 - 1863) and Emily S. McKay (1820 - 1855). Emily's father, Jeremiah McKay, Jr. (1786-1867), had been a magistrate for Shenandoah County, Virginia, where he was also a captain of the local militia, before moving to Marion County, Missouri, about 1830. Jeremiah's own grandfather, Moses Mackay (1720-1777), had served in Captain David Steel's Company, 13th Virginia Regiment, and drowned on 17 July 1777 during the Revolutionary War. Because of this Mackay/McKay connection, descendants of Edwin R. Hansbrough are eligible for membership in patriotic societies, such as the DAR. The same Mackay/McKay connection leads to even more illustrious forbears among the Scottish clan Mackay, linking Moses Mackay inevitable, but directly, to none other than Robert I, the Bruce (1274-1329), the greatest of all Scottish heroes who led Scotland to independence at Bannockburn (1314).

On their wedding day, 28 January 1872, Edwin R. (I have a photo of the tombstone that show's the letter "A" as the initial. Peggy Fusselman) Hansbrough was 30 and his bride, Mary M. Hickman, was 27. To this union four children were born.

The marriage was short-lived. After giving birth to three children, and while attempting to give birth to her fourth, Mary (Hickman) Hansbrough died on 1 February 1880 at the age of 35. Her widowed husband survived for six more years."
