His birth certificate shows his name was Eowind. Today in Norway, that would be Øyvind, probably.

His Baptism Certificate shows that he was baptised at the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Free Church, 44th Street, Brooklyn, New York. The church changed its name to the 59th Street Lutheran Church and moved, I guess. The address is 749 59th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220-3910. (718) 439-7992. I called 4/9/2004 to ask if they still had old church records and left a request for someone interested in doing some research to contact me. The church was founded in November, 1912.

At the time of his birth his parents resided at 673 Hicks Street, Brooklyn, New York. The census records , though, show the family lived at 4814 Seventh Avenue by 1920.

In 1921 his father died.

He went to P.S. 169 in Brooklyn at 44th and 7th Avenue and then to Junior High at some school on 49th Street and 9th Avenue from 7th to 9th grade.

He then went to night school at Bay Ridge High School while working during the day at Cuny and Guerber Electric Supply and, when he finished night school, went to work for Cuny and Guerber full time

In 1936 he bought his first car.

In 1937 he left Cuny and Gerber to work for Baitinger Electric on Barkley Street. He worked there as a clerk, estimating the cost of electrical jobs.

1939 he met Martha and they dated for about a year and a half before getting married in 1941. They lived at 441 99th Street, a one-bedroom apartment.

In June, 1942 he joined the army (inducted at Ft. Upton in N.Y., basic training at Ft. Meade, Maryland.) He spent two years their, was transferred to another camp in Virginia for a year and then back to Ft. Meade. He worked in a Service Company (the laundry).

In 1945 he got out of the army and moved back to Brooklyn. He was hired again by Baitinger Electric and he and Martha rented a two-bedroom, first-floor apartment at 5502 6th Avenue.

1948 Barry was born.

1950 Edwin and Martha moved to Uniondale, but Edwin continued to commute to Baitinger Electric. The commuting time was terrible.

1951 he bought his first television.

1952 he went to work for Grumman in a fighter plane factory. He worked in the machine shop.

1953, at the advice of his uncle, Ole, Edwin changed jobs again to the U.S. Post Office. He remained at the Post Office until his retirement.

His birth certificate is #2283 issued by the Department of Health, New York dated 8 Jan 1916.
