"_____On July 30, 1907, she was married to Lieutenant, now Captain Edward R. Tompkins of the Eleventh U. S. Cavalry, who was born in South Carolina, was educated at the South Carolina Military Institute. Was a soldier in the Cuban War and entered the regular army as lieutenant, served in the Philippines where he was stationed twice since then, two years at Fort Des Moines later two years in Cuba with the Eleventh U. S. Cavalry and for the last two years at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. Now stationed at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonion, Texas. Receives his promotion to captaincy August 12, 1911, with transfer to another regiment or to be detailed for special service. Particulars of his genealogy have not yet come to hand. His mother is a South Carolina woman, his father a New Yorker, who went south to live soon after the Civil War."
