Edward G. Rick, age 92, of Harborcreek, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023 at UPMC Hamot after bowling his final strike. Edward was born on February 15, 1931 in Erie, son of the late Hiram and Mildred Hardman Rick. Ed was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved wife, Rhea Laughner Rick. The couple fell in love as teenagers and spent nearly 70 years together as husband and wife. All who knew them knew that the love they shared was truly unconditional.
Ed worked at Smith Meter as a machinist for most of his working career. In his younger years, he loved to take Rhea square dancing. When he wasn’t with his family, you could find Ed on the golf course, in the bowling alley, riding his bike, taking a walk, or mowing the lawn on his riding mower. Ed was a member of Wesleyville Baptist Church for over 65 years and a member of the East Erie Moose Lodge 593.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Rick (Audrey); and two sisters, Bonnie Beamish and Dorothy Orton (Arnold). He is survived by one daughter, Dania Watson (Terry); one son, Mike Rick (Arlene); four grandchildren, Melissa Colavecchia (Frank), Amy Bradley (Josh), Jeff Rick (Steph) and Pam Palotas (Brian); and 13 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Ed was most known for his jokester personality. He was famous for his quick wit and storytelling, often leaving you to wonder if he was telling the truth or a tall tale. He was kind-hearted and always willing to lend a hand. Ed will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
