EDWARD F. O"BRIEN Edward F. O'Brien, one of the most widely known and most respected residents of this city, died at his home, 31 Allds street, at 12:30 o'clock this morning. The end came quietly and peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children. He had been sick since early last October, suffering a general breaking up of his constitution. Friday his condition seemed about the same as it had been for the past two weeks. Toward night he began to fail rapidly and in the evening the members of the family were informed that the end was but a short distance away. He brought his family to this city to reside nearly 20 years ago, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances will sorrow with the mourning family. Mr. O'Brien had been quiet and home-loving in his tastes, and this had been especially true during the past few years of his life. He was an ideal husband and father, and a thorough Christian gentleman, a man whose thoughts were always gentle, loving and kind. He was born in London, Eng., Aug. 28, 1828. Coming to this country as a young man, he went to Indiana, where he taught school for several years. Later he came east and settled in northern Vermont, and for four years he held the position of postmaster at Swanton. Again moving he located in St. Albans, Vt., where for years he carried on a prominent grocery business. Upon his retirement he came to this city. He married Miss Bridget Conlon in Swanton, Vt., 52 years ago last August, and their wedded life has been remarkably happy. They celebrated their golden wedding in this city two years ago, the occasion being largely attended. Mrs. O'Brien survives him. Eleven children were born to them, five of whom are living: George W. of Milford; Mrs. Helen A. Barron, Mrs. James S. Keeley, Mrs. Frank J. O'Neil and Mrs. George F. Adams of this city, and several grandchildren. The funeral will take place at 10 o'clock Monday morning at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, of which he had been an attendant since his residence here. All are requested to omit flowers.
