Have original letter from V. B. Kerr, Monte Vista, 302 Institute Street, Staunton, VA dated Nov. 14, 1925 To Edward Grant Kerr - Addressed "Dear Cousin" Text includes "I remember back in Spring & Summer of 1879, I was there, 46 years ago & I was near 20 years old now I am 67 past and I was homesick to the the dear Girl I left behind; and after marrying that girl in 1882 on my 24th Birthday August 16th, She only lived a year & 4 days, but she was so good the Lord called her Home. I have gone through another bereavement in 1919 after living with her nearly 30 years, and my Prents & 4 Brothers & 2 Sisters passed paway. I have 1 Brother James living 75 years and 3 Sisters, all very delicate. James is a Waynesboro 12 miles East, & Sisters are near Lexington, VA 31 miles South. Harriet lost her Husband - Nick Armentrout here in July. I am living here in Staunton overlooking city to Mountains & I remember: Ailsie Sarah Mary Elizabeth Toliver Tyler Tutwiler Jones: but I dont think she lives; how could she? Well you know I was to see you all in 1912 & Ed Waters died in 1919 & his wife, My Dear Cousin in 1923, and your parents earlier, I think your Mother in 1912 just before I came from our trip to Texas, Kansas, & Missoui & I was in Texas, N Mexico, Arizona & California in 1922 & 1923, but saw nothing to beat the Valley of Va. You say you wrote John Kerr & no reply; I think his Sister Mary Kerr Irvine of Bowling Green, MO does all the writing. She like to write about the Kerrs & history: write to her. Now while you are getting to travel too, cant you come to Old VA, your Ancestral Home, and visit us & other kin? Your Aunt Lois & Ed & Lizzie Seaburn Visited us in 1907 I think, and I think the other of you kin outght to come while we are living: tell Will & family & Waters family & other kin to come too. We have no children & I have married 3 times: & you have no children either. You can take in the Florida Boom too, but it costs $15.day they say at fine Hotels: but take a tent along & camp out: I was in Fla Winter of 1913; but mosquitoes were bad at Tampa & Bartow & Winter Garden. I stopped 4 days near Pensacola Fla & Ala line Jan 10 to 14 on our way from California & Texas in 1923, but too damp & chilly if I had gone to Palm Beach & Miami then & bought I could have made a fortune for property doubled in a year. I bought some 8 per cent interest Bonds on Apartment House in Miami last year, & this year I bought 8 per cent Bonds on Hotel near Palm Beach Fla dated May 1924 & the Hotel was valued at $160,000 and all the loan on it was $73,000 1st mortgage and this year it sold for $300,000 but I dont want any Bond at the Value of half the value now. Well write soon and tell all the news about kinfold. With love to you & yours and all our kin there. Your cousin V. B. KERR
