Edward Hoffmeyer Edward A. Hoffmeyer, 75, of Tinton Falls, a leader in the field of dental lab education, died May 28 at home. A former president of the New Jersey Dental Lab Association, Mr. Hoffmeyer was the owner of Quintessence Dental Lab of West Orange. He also established and managed the Essex Dental Studio at Livingston-Short Hills Dental Associates before retiring in 2003 after 60 years in the field. Mr. Hoffmeyer began his career at the age of 13 at K.J. Hector Dental Lab in East Orange and later became a partner in Stockman-Hoffmeyer Dental Lab of South Orange. One of the first to be certified as a dental technician, Mr. Hoffmeyer was a pioneer in dental lab education who helped establish technician certification programs around New Jersey. He was the clinical director of the New Jersey Study Club and the originator and creator of the first education symposium at Fairleigh Dickinson School of Dentistry. He attended Upsala College, East Orange, and served in the Navy for two years as a third class petty officer during the Korean War. A former president of the Essex County Young Democrats, Mr. Hoffmeyer was also president of the Oranges/Maplewood Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he started one of the first Meals-on-Wheels programs and a Teenage Miss America pageant. He was also president of the Snow Journers of the Oranges, a ski club, and a member of the West Orange Rotary, the Columbia Racquet Club in Florham Park and tennis clubs on Long Beach Island and in Delray Beach, Fla. Born in Orange, Mr. Hoffmeyer lived in Florham Park for many years before moving to Tinton Falls. He maintained a summer residence in Beach Haven for many years. Surviving are his wife, Marge; a son, Craig, and a sister, Irene Downey. References
