Notes for EDWARD GROGAN: Edward Grogan was born in Ireland. His naturalization petition states that he came to the New York in 1866. It appears that he settled for a time in Pennsylvania, where other Grogans lived, according to the godparents of his children born in Erie. These children were baptized at St. Patrick's in Erie. He married Margaret Duffy about 1870. Their first child, baptized Charles Thomas (known as Thomas) was born 7/4/1870. Their children John Patrick (5/7/1872) and James (2/6/1874) were born in Eri

Fourth child Margaret was born 12/8/1875 in Mara, Ontario, Canada, where the family must have briefly visited. This was where Margaret's family lived. From there the family moved to Wisconsin. William was born 4/2/1878 in Eagle Point, WI.

During this time, the family had acreage in the Town of Wheaton, where they are found in the 1880 and 1885 census reports. Ed was a farmer during this time, according to his children's birth records. Ed is also mentioned as a contributing founder of St. John the Baptist Church in Cook's Valley, Wisconsin.

At some point around 1890 the family moved on towards Stanley. The book, "Stanley Our Town 1881-1981" mentions: "The fourth camp in this area was built on the location of the Stanley Soo Line Depot by a man named Grogan. He logged off the area now representing the city of Stanley."

In 1892, Ed Grogan died. There is apparently no death record. He was buried in Holy Family Cemetery in Stanley and was one of the earliest interments.
