In Hartsville, N. Y., July 8th, 1880, Edward Emerson, in the 66th year of his age. On the morning of his death, he complained of not feeling as well as common, and said to his wife he would go into the garden and work for a while, perhaps exercise would do him good, but returned in a few minutes, saying he felt very badly in the region of the heart, and laid down on the bed. His wife wanted to send for a physician, but he said it would be of no use. He knew that the messenger of death stood at his door, and in a few minutes his body was left cold clay. Bro. Emerson made a profession of his faith in Christ in early life, and united with the Second Seventh-day Baptist Church of Alfred, adorning his profession by a consistent Christian life. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Church of Hartsville. He has left a wife and eleven children to sorrow for a departed husband and father. His funeral was held at the Second Church of Alfred, on Sabbath-day, a very large congregation being present.
