Facts and Events
Edward Cox's troubles with his neighbors in Buckingham County, Virginia, seem to have begun as early as 1796.9.2. On this date, a district court record in Prince Edward County indicates that a suit had been filed by Benjamin B. Cheshire, father and next friend of Charles Cheshire alleging trespass, assault and battery committed by defendant Edward Cox, son of Matthew Cox. Beverly Randolph was chosen as an umpire by arbitrators Miller and John Woodson. This suit and others appear in the records of this district court through 1809. The district court located in Prince Edward County served the counties of Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax and Prince Edward. Image Gallery
