Edward Constable (1841- )

Edward moved his family from England to America in about 1882. At the time, his daughter, Edith, was 5.

Constable-family legend believes the "Constable"-line is descended from Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) of England who was famously beheaded by King Henry VIII (Wikipedia Page) for refusing to acknowledge Henry as supreme head of the Church of England and the annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. After refusing to take the Oath of Supremacy, he was convicted of treason and executed.

The head of Sir Thomas More is buried in St. Dunstan's Church, Canterbury (as the Archbishop of Canterbury), in the Roper family vault beneath the floor. He was beheaded on Tower Hill July 6, 1535. He was an illustrious Lord Chancellor of England (1529-32), Scholar, Martyr, and Saint.

His daughter Margaret married William Roper (1496-1578) and it is from the marriage of their daughter, Anne, to [Sir Philip "1st Baronet Constable of Everingham" (abt. 1595 - 1664)] (Wikipedia page) that the Constables are believed to be descended.
... Follow-up research ... from above, "marriage of their daughter, Anne, to Sir Phillip Constable" is not supported on WikiTree. Anne is not shown as a daughter of the Ropers, and Sir Phillip Constable does not show a spouse. Conclusion - This observation does not exclude the relationship possibility. More research needs to be done to either confirm or refute it. Additionally, Sir Phillip Constable is shown with two children,

• Sir Marmaduke Constable, 2nd Bt. b. Apr 1619
  
• Catherine Constable b. 1630, d. 30 Apr 1681
