He moved with his parents and sisters to LeMars a few years after his birth. He graduated from Union College (now Westmar) at age 16. In 1895 the family moved to Noble County, OK. In 1900 he attended Oklahoma A&M. He had a government position in Anadarko, OK at the Kiowa Indian Agency. In 1925 he took a position with Phillips Petroleum Company.
