    Major Brooke came to Montana and bought the stage stop the only wooden building between Helena and Virginia City. He named his stage stop Whitehall (which is the how the town of Whitehall got it's name) He was married three times, Eliza Kizar, Elizabeth Woolverton, (they had one son Walter) his first two wives died before he came to Montana. He married Rachel Woolverton December 31, 1857. They had four children, Walter C., Mrs Robert W (Mary) Noble, Mrs. E. J.(Lulu) Stanley, and E. Marvin.
