Macroom Union contains an area of 304§ square miles, or 194,981 statute acres, and a population of 35,166, There are 16 Electoral divisions, represented by 25 elective, and 8 ex-officio guardians. The Workhouse is built for the accommodation of 800 paupers, it was opened in May, 1843, and on 2nd December, 1843, there were 138 inmates.
