Bio: Edward G. Althauser age 98 of Kenton passed away at 11:20 p.m. Sunday January 7, 2018 at the Hardin Hills Health Center. He was born August 15, 1919 in Hardin County the son of the late Lawrence and Anna (Krock) Althauser. In 1941 he married Vivian Hall and she passed away in 1972. Edward then married Mary Belle Ellis Greentree in 1974 and she passed away on December 26, 2015. He is survived by his son Gerald (Nancy) Althauser; step sons Mac (Kathy) Greentree of Postville, Iowa, Gene (Sherry) Greentree of Kenton, and Jay (Jean) Greentree of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren Joel Althauser of Kenton, Craig (Amy) Althauser of Holton, Kansas, Shawn Althauser of Ostrander, and Tara (Ryan) Collins of Kenton; great grandchildren Jackson Althauser, Delaney Althauser, Riley Althauser, Sydney Althauser, Grace Collins, and Caylee Althauser; along with several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Edward was preceded in death by his grandson Kyle Althauser in 1998, sisters Opal Prater and Edna Jordan, and 1 step great grandchild. Edward was a graduate of the Kenton High School class of 1937, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific during WWII, and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Kenton First United Methodist Church, the Goshen Grange, the Hardin County Pomona Grange 7th degree where he was also a Past Master, the Hardin County Farm Bureau, and served as the Director and Secretary on the first Hardin County Fair Board. Edward was inducted into the Hardin Co. Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2014. Funeral services for Edward G. Althauser will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday January 12, 2018 at the Kenton First United Methodist Church with Pastor Jonathan Hanover officiating. Burial will follow the service at Grove Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Kenton Amvets Post 1994 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Schindewolf Stout Crates Funeral Home, Kenton. Donations in Edward's memory may be made to the Kenton First United Methodist Church, the Goshen Grange Scholarship Fund, and/or the Hardin County Agricultural Hall of Fame.
