Bio: Edna was a member of Delaney Chapel A.M.E. and believed in community service. She was president of Grow, Inc. of Brown County MRDD, trustee of Adams/Brown County Clinic, National Professional Business Women's Club, Ohio Valley Research Development Commission (OVRDC) board member, American Cancer Society volunteer in Brown County and was a 4-H advisor in Ripley. She also authorized the grant that resulted in the initial funding for the "Helping Hands" facility in Georgetown and worked as a professional nutrition aid for Brown County under The Ohio State University. In 1978 Governor James A. Rhodes selected her as "Mother of the Year" for mental retardation volunteer service awards for "outstanding devotion and service to the state mental retardation program."
She was born in Sardinia Ohio, on the Freed Gist Slave Settlement, the daughter of the late James Peter and Nona Wallace Toler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Vivian (Tye) Mills, whom she married May 17, 1941; one son, Wade Alan Mills; six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Mills is survived by three daughters, Sandra Bealer of Cincinnati, Peggy Warner of Sardinia and Marsha Mills of Cuyahoga Falls; four grandchildren and spouses, Vera and Antione Jones, Clarence J. (C.J.) and Samantha Bealer, Marchandia Bealer and Ernest (Andy) Warner; five great-grandchildren, Asherah, Ty Patrick, Brayden and Austin Bealer and Rishon Jones; one brother, Leon Toler of East Orange, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.
