Edmund F. O'Connell

BERNARD, Iowa -- Services for Edmund F. O'Connell, 72, 544 Dickenson St., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where there will be a flag presentation by the American Legion Cascade Post 528. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. O'Connell was employed with the Cascade Sales Barn, United Livestock and Lynch Livestock.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1922, in Temple Hill, son of Patrick and Mary (Noonan) O'Connell. He died at 2:10 p.m. at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

He married Patricia McCarthy on June 21, 1958, at St. Patrick's Church, Garryowen.

He received his education in rural country schools and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish and its rosary society.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia O'Connell, of Bernard; three sons, John (and Rita) O'Connell and Raymond (and Joann) O'Connell, both of Bernard, and Leonard (Beth) O'Connell, of Otter Creek; five daughters, Barb (and Don) Schuster and Cathy (and Rick) Rubel, both of Zwingle, Laurie (and Kenny) Morehead, of Maquoketa, Judy (and Kraig) Kruse, of Bernardm and Shirley (and Chuck) Soliday, of Yutan, Neb.; 15 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; three sisters, Loretta (and Francis) Shanahan, Eileen Fassbinder, and Rosemary (and Ray) Asbury, all of Dubuque; a brother, James (and Maxine) O'Connell, of Maquoketa; his mother-in-law, Rita McCarthy, of Bernard; and a sister-in-law, Margie O'Connell, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Joseph O'Connell, in 1973; a brother, Pat O'Connell; and a sister, Eleanor Slattery.

An Edmund F. O'Connell Memorial Fund has been established.
