"Naughty Edith Wardwell Runs Away, Annoys Police, Now Charged With Theft Woburn, July 26 - Edith Wardwell is a short, stout girl of 16, but appears older. It is alleged she has earned her parents no end of trouble, having run away quite often, and remaining away for days and nights at a time. The services of the police have been often sought, but they have got sick of chasing her about, they say. Last Monday she disappeared from her home and as she continued to remain away the police were again called upon, and a search made by them, but until last evening they were not successful. Last evening, Mrs. Samuel Leeds of 59 Eastern Av. informed the police that her gold watch and a valuable gold ring had been stolen from her home. She had not noted the loss until last evening. The police suspected the missing girl, and renewed their efforts to find her, and late last night she was discovered in the tow house on Salem St. near the Stoneham line, and in her possession was the stolen property. Miss Edith will be held in custody until the arrival of the State agent, and will then probably be sent to the reform school at Lancaster." -The Boston Globe 26 July 1890 1900 census shows 2 children born, but only 1 living.
