Mail Tribune, Jackson Co, OR, July 16, 2004: Edith E. Allen A private family memorial service will be held for Edith Ellen Allen, 91, of Ashland who died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at a local foster home. Inurnment will be at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Allen was born March 4, 1913 in Arkansas, the daughter of Amanda and Albert Tullis. She was raised and attended schools in Kansas. In 1935 at Dodge City, Kansas she married Ernest Allen, who preceded her in death in 1990.

In 1944 Mr. and Mrs. Allen moved to the Rogue Valley. They owned and operated several grocery stores, including the Ideal Market in both Talent and Ashland. It later became known as Meisters Buy Rite and they developed the area into a small shopping center.

Mrs. Allen enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading. She also enjoyed traveling, especially on the Oregon Coast. She was a member of the Soroptimists Club and the Lady Elks.

Surviving are one son, Gerald Allen of Ashland; two daughters, Barbara Meister of Ashland, and Linda Hanson of Eugene, OR; eight grandchildren, Steve Meister, Brenda Opatz, Laura Arbini, Mike Allen, Gary Allen, Lisa Allen, Kelly Allen, and Ryan Hanson; and six great-grandchildren.
