Times Record Obituary Edith N. Owens 05/28/97 BATH — Edith Norton Owens, 63, died May 26, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Bath on July 17, 1933, the daughter of Francis Ward and Jessie Colby Norton. She attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School in 1950. After graduating she worked for Shaws Book Store and Senters Department Store, leaving to go to Bath Iron Works where she worked in the store department for 12 years. She was then employed by Sup-Ship Navy Office, retiring in January of 1997 because of her illness. She was a member of the Bath Professional Women's club, holding the office of treasurer for a short time. She enjoyed cross stitching, knitting and gardening. She was also an avid reader of mystery stories and books on the Victorian period. Mrs. Owens is survived by three sisters, Susan Franzosa of Marshfield, Mass., and Jean Colfer and Nancy Richter, both of Bath; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High St. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, with the Rev. Andrew Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath. Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. [edit] ▼ 45 Pine StAn article in the Bath Independent, 8 Aug. 1935, describes 45 Pine Street's 6 generations of home ownership: [edit] House Now Occupied by Sixth GenerationThe dwelling at 45 Pine street in which Mr. and Mrs. Francis Norton and their two children, Susan and Edith, make their home, has been the abode of six successive generations. It was the home of Mrs. Brina Marr who was followed by her daughter, Mrs. Drusilla Jackson, wife of Robert Jackson, and in succession by Mrs. Jackson's daughter, Mrs. Rhoda A. Grover, all of whom are now deceased. Now living there is Mrs. Emma Colby, widow of Henry R. Colby; also her daughter, Mrs. Jessie Norton, wife of Francis, and their two daughters. Six successive generations in one house are unusual, but when they are all descended from the female side of the family the occurrence is rare and has been of special interest to the descendants of Brina Marr." ▼References
