She was born in Lynch, Ky., the daughter of John C. and Minnie (Gregory) Burkhart. She was employed as camp ground coordinator at East Harbor State Park retiring in 1995, and spent her winters in Florida. She was a member of the Channel Breakers CB Club and was an avid doll collector. She enjoyed bowling, crafts and needlepoint.

Edith is survived by her husband Robert C. Shellhammer Jr. who she married Jan. 23, 1979; three adopted daughters April Shanke of Port Clinton, Sherry Gurtz of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Kim Hernandes of St. Augusta, Fla.; son David E. Lawson of Dayton; three stepsons Robert Shellhammer III and Michael Shellhammer, both of North Carolina, and David Shellhammer of Toledo; 26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters Carolyn J. Osburn of Monroeville, Alma Fae Christianson, Patricia A. Cesa, Mary M. Sorrell, and Rachel J. Harmon, all of Sandusky; and brothers Charles J. Burkhart of Toledo and Danny J. Burkhart of Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sandra J. Burkhart, and stepsons Joseph Patrick and John Andrew Shellhammer.

Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Adams of New Life Church officiating.

Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
