Obituary copied from Edgar's Find-a-Grave memorial page:

"At Roscoe, January 3d, occurred the death of Edgar G. Horton, son of the late Gilbert Horton. The cause of death was Bright's disease, from which he had been suffering for the past two years. Mr. Horton had been residing with his son, Lynn C. Horton, who is principal of the Roscoe High school.

The deceased was born in the town of Otego, November 28th, 1862. In 1885 he was married to Harriet M. Culver at West Oneonta. He is survived by his wife, the son above mentioned, and by two sisters, Mrs. Emma Hunt and Mrs. Sarah Ackley, both of West Oneonta.

The entire life of Mr. Horton was spent in this county except the past year at Roscoe. During his younger days he was a teacher, but for the past twenty years he had been a prosperous farmer in the village of West Oneonta.

At fourteen years of age, Mr. Horton united with the Free Baptist church and had always been a faithful member. He had been superintendent of the Sunday school for several years and at the time of his death was corresponding secretary of the Christian Endeavor society and also church clerk. For two years he held the office of president of the County Christian Endeavor society. He was also a member of the Oneonta Grange. Few men were so well known or so highly esteemed.

The funeral was held at the Oneonta Free Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. His pastor, the Rev. C. H. Manning, officiated. Burial at the West Oneonta cemetery."
