Edgar L. "Roy" Harp, 96, of Parsons died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor, where he had resided for the past five years. He had been in failing health.

He was born Feb. 2, 1909, at Cedar Vale to Ambrose C. and Lulu Belle (Jerome) Harp. He grew up and attended schools at Cedar Vale, graduating from Cedar Vale High School in 1926.

He married Doris Lorene Trigg on March 15, 1931, at Cedar Vale. Following their marriage they lived in Cedar Vale, where he was employed at L.C. Adams Mercantile Co. They later moved to Independence, where he worked for the Andrew Johnston Feed Store for several years. In 1951, they moved to Chanute, where he was first employed at Farm Service Store. He then worked at the former Pamida Store in Chanute for 11 years before retiring. She preceded him in death in December 1953.

He remarried four times: Lula Byram, Myrtle Hart, Erma Jerome and Mary Samples. All of his wives preceded him in death.

While living in Chanute and Independence he attended Assembly of God churches. After moving to Parsons in 1995, he attended Apostolic Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include two sons, Earl R. Harp of Sequien, Texas, and Ronald W. Harp of Erie; five daughters, Nina J. Perry, Sharon K. Mayfield, both of Chanute, Carol L. Jones of Modesto, Calif., Ann L. Dye of Independence and Patti L. Likin of Canton; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lester C. Harp of Elkhart and Lewis M. Harp of Independence.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wylie, who died in 1988; and a son, Daniel, who died in 1998.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute with the Rev. Mark Koch officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.

Memorials to Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 405 Main, Parsons.
