Ebenezer and his whole family were captured by Indians in a raid on Deerfield 29 Feb 1704 and marched to Canada in knee-deep snow. "His wife was unable to keep up with the rest and he was compelled by his savage captors to leave her behind. Her death at the hands of one of the enemy was soon reported to him." Ebenezer and daughter Sarah were redeemed by a party from Hadley, but daughter Waitstill never returned and her fate is unknown.[1]
