Will of "Earl Rice of Barre ... Yeoman", dated 12 May 1856, proved 1 Jul 1856, names wife Mary Rice; my Grandsons Viz. George Freeman Rice, Frederick Earl Rice and John Allen Rice, children of my son Larkin Rice deceased; Lucy Hapgood wife of Chauncy Hapgood; Sophronia Rice widow of the aforesaid Larkin Rice; David Rice and Lemuel P. Rice to be executors. 25 Jun 1856: The Widow and the guardian of the sole heirs at law of Earl Rice, late of Barre, deceased consent that the will be proved. Signed Mary Rice, Martin Nelson. 26 Aug 1856: Inventory of Earl Rice late of Barre: $44,118.08, by James M. Jemkins Jr, Seth Caldwell, Henry S. Miner. 1 Nov 1859 Petition of executors: that Earl Rice left a widow whose name was Mary Rice, who has since intermarried and is now the wife of Nathan Stevens of said Barre; that said Earl Rice at his decease left no child: and that his only heirs at law are his three Grand-children, to wit; George Freeman Rice, Frederick Earl Rice and John Allen Rice, the children of Larkin Rice, a deceased son of said Earl Rice, they being minors and now under the Guardianship of Martin Wilson of said Barre, and ask for permission to distribution undevised balance of estate. 1 Nov 1859: Distribution to widow and three grandchildren, the only heirs at law, Mary Steavens formerly Mary Rice the widow; George Freeman Rice grandchild; Frederick Earl Rice grandchild; John Allen Rice grandchild.
