- ↑ WAKEFIELD--Earl C. Herman died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at the Wesley Hospital in Wichita.
Mr. Herman was born Feb. 12, 1923, at Solomon, the son of Charles Herman and Nina Park Herman. He was a graduate of the Solomon High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He attended Washburn University and the University of Kansas. He married Mary Elizabeth Iliff March 9, 1946. He began his banking career with the Solomon State Bank, then moved to the Citizens Bank of Abilene. He then became president of the Talmage State Bank. In 1964, moved to become the president of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Wakefield. He retired from the bank in January of 1985. He was a 50 year member of the Kansas Bankers Association, Lions Clubs in Solomon, Talmage and Wakefield, the Masonic Lodge and Methodist Church. He was named Citizen of the Year for Clay County, served as the first president of the Milford Lake Association and served on the Wakefield City Council. Survivors include his wife Mary Herman; two sons, C.T. and wife Susie Herman of Santa Fe, N.M. and Robert and wife Cheryl Herman of Dallas, Tex.; two sisters, Frances Wedgewood of Denver, Colo. and Vivian Armstrong of Liberal; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
