Mogelijk geboren in Stone (Staffordshire), 9 Km noord van Stafford. Is verwant aan het koningshuis van Mercia. Krijgt land in Bredon (18 Km ZO van Worcester) van zijn oom Ethelbald, koning van Mercia, om er een klooster te bouwen. Bron BHO schrijft: 

   According to Worcester tradition, between 715 and 717, (fn 13) Ethelbald, King of Mercia, gave land at BREDON to his kinsman Eanulf to found a monastry there. (fn 14) Offa grandson of Eanulf endowed the monastery with lands in Worcestershire in 780.
