BURLINGTON — Mr. E. Gordon Malone, 78, of 1020 E. Willowbrook Drive, died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after a critical illness of five days.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs.. Rebecca Fogleman Malone, who survives, and the son of Mr. Roy W. Malone and Mrs.. Julia Turner Malone, both deceased. He was the retired vice-president of N.C.N.B. (NationsBank) and retired vice president of Somers Pardue Insurance Co. He was a former member of the Burlington Housing Authority, serving for 31 years. He was a former member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, a former board member of the Alamance County Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the American Business Club. He was a U.S. Army-Air Force veteran of World War II and was a graduate of the School of Banking of Rutgers University. He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, where he was an elder. Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs.. Julie M. Hancock of Walton, Ky., and Mrs.. Ann M. Meadows of Winston-Salem; a son, Mr. Michael Gordon “Mike” Malone of Gastonia; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. E.G. “Pat” Malone Jr.. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at First Reformed United Church of Christ by the Rev. Phillip Myers, pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
