Dwight A. Spurling, 81, of South Vista Boulevard, died at 4:43 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Mr. Spurling was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was an assembly line supervisor at Cummins Engine Company retiring in 1987 after 19 years of service. After retirement, Mr. Spurling held full time employment until the age of 79.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, was a racing enthusiast and an I.U. sports fanatic.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Howard Boles officiating.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
Born in Columbus, November 20, 1932, Mr. Spurling was the son of Lawrence and Mabel Campbell Spurling. Dwight married E. Jayne Fording November 20, 1954. She preceded him in death February 18, 2005.
Survivors include children, Larry (Sheila) Spurling of Evansville and Becky (Tim) Arterburn of Columbus; grandchildren, Shelley (Joshua) Reinboldt of Valparaiso, Michael (Sarah) Spurling of Louisville and Ellie and Emily Arterburn of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Shane and Samantha Reinboldt.
Mr. Spurling was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
