Dwight is the father of my brother in law... Merritt. I did not know Dwight extremely well.... but I had the privilege of spending time with him on several occasions and found him to be very friendly with a quick sense of humor! Merritt describes him as a "pot stirrer" as he often enjoyed stirring up trouble for a good laugh or two. Dwight was the father of 6 children.... five girls, Carol, Erin, Linda, Karlen, Megan and one boy... Merritt. He was married to his beautiful wife Barbara for 50 plus years.
Dwight served in WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. He began his military career in the Army and continued to serve throughout his life in the Army Air care, Coastguard Reserve and the Air force. He retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel. Dwight received his education from the University of Dubuque and after retiring from the Air force began teaching 8th grade science. He retired from his teaching career in 1988.
Dwight was an avid golfer and won several tournaments at his local country club. He also thoroughly enjoyed hunting and hunted for anything from wild boars to deer. Dwight was an exceptional football player in college and was a letter winner. His brother Richard was also a very talented football player and was sought after from the Chicago Bears. Richard also served in the military and was MIA for many years until he was assumed passed and gone.
Dwight served as a Deacon at the Presbyterian Church and was also a 32nd Degree Mason.
Dwight's health deteriorated for quite some time before he passed away in 2003. He is very much loved and missed by his family. Dwight left behind is wife <living> and his four living children...
