Duncan came to America with the 42nd Highland egiment and served in the American Revolutionary War. At the close of the war, in the fall of 1783, he came to Saint John, New Brunswick. He was granted Lot P178, but the regiment was ordered to remain together and was moved up the Nashwaak where they received granted land. Duncan received Lots 26 and 28 of the Campbell grant.
