In 1585 he was given the Idrone estates, near Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, by his father Sir Nicholas.

On 21 March 1587 Dudley Bagenal was killed in an ambush by the Kavanaghs at Ballymoon, Carlow, following a long-running blood feud with that family.
