Daughter of Elizabeth and Gottfried (Godfry) Mack. Born in Germany. Came to America on a sailing vessel that took 110 days to make the crossing. Her sixth birthday occurred while on ship. They arrived at the port of New Orleans, LA., around 1852, and moved on up the Mississippi River to Missouri and Johnson Co., where they settled. Thorpe records indicate: Immigrated to U.S. in 1850, at age 4. Supposedly, was in shipwreck off coast of Portugal while in transit. Obit: Warrensburg Journal, 4/2/23 Mrs. Dorothy Adams, wife of the late John A. Adams, died Saturday afternoon at 2:15 at her home eight miles southeast of this city after a brief illness with double pneumonia. She was in Warrensburg Monday on a business trip and was seized with a chill on her return home. The Adams family is among the oldest and best known residents of this county. Funeral services at 10:30 Tuesday morning at New Hope Methodist church by the pastor, Rev. Whithaus. Burial in the Adams Cemetery. Dorothy Mack, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Mack, was born in Germany, August 2, 1847. She came to this country at the age of six years. September 27, 1866, she was united in marriage to John A. Adams. To this union ten children were born, all of whom are living. They are, Benjamin of near the Adams home, Mrs. Julius Wagoner, Eldon, Mo., Mrs. Dan Burford of this city, Archie G. of Absarokee, Mont., Mrs. Jessie George of Phoeniz, Ariz., Fred G. of Colombus, Mont., Mrs. Wesley Thorpe of Haviland, Kans., Mrs. Jesse Fitzgerald of Leeton, and Elmer at home. Mrs. Adams was a worthy member of the New Hope Methodist church. She was a woman of strong charater who devoted her life to the rearing of a large family. She was an influential woman in her neighborhood, loved and respected by a host of friends.
