Dorothy Marie Bain Dorothy Marie Bain, 89, of Boise, formerly of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at St. Alphonsus Hospital. At Dorothy's request there will be no memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home. Dorothy was born on April 29, 1917 to Earl and Elma Rash at the family home in Arling, Idaho. She graduated high school in Cascade, Idaho, in 1935. She married Joe Stiburek in 1938 and they had one son, Jerry Stiburek. During World War II they lived in Portland, Ore., where Dorothy attended Beauty School and received her degree. Following their divorce she and Jerry lived in Cascade, Idaho, where Dorothy was employed by Bradley Mining Company. During this time she met Lowell Bain who was also employed by Bradley Mining as a Superintendent at the Stibnite Mine. Lowell moved to Valdez, Alaska, in 1949. In 1951 Dorothy joined Lowell in Valdez, Alaska, where she and Lowell were married. Dorothy operated her own beauty salon in Valdez until 1953 when they moved to Anchorage. They made their home in Anchorage for the next 30 years. Their son Curtis Bain was born in 1957. In Anchorage Dorothy worked for Artic Fuel, Columbus Distributing and Denali Fuel Company. She was very active in various professional and civic organizations during her business career in Anchorage. She was a member of Credit Women International where she served as President; International Credit Association; Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and Quota Club of which she also served as President; and volunteered as a credit counselor for the Consumer Credit Counseling Assoc. of Alaska. In 1971/1972 she was Credit Woman of the year; in 1970 she was named one of the ten best dressed professional career women in Anchorage, Beta Sigma Phis 1970 Sweetheart and in 1972 was included in the Personalities of the West in recognition of past achievements and outstanding service to her community. Dorothy and Lowell retired to Boise in 1981 and spent their winters in Wickenburg, Arizona, and their summers in Boise and Cascade. Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Jerry (Patty) Stiburek of Boise, and Curtis Bain, Anchorage, Alaska; sister Ruth Johnson, Emmett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Bain; her parents, her sister Georgie; and her daughter-in-law Jackie Bain. The family suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity.
